Paralegal - Legal Assistant - Rehan Owens
Seeking Paralegal and/or Legal Assistant
Rehan Owens Law is growing. We are seeking a capable, organized, and tech savvy Paralegal and/or Legal Assistant to support attorneys in our Omaha office. The ideal candidate will have at least four years of legal support experience, although candidates with strong law firm, administrative, or office management experience will also be considered.
This position is best suited for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced legal environment, takes ownership of tasks, communicates clearly, and is comfortable supporting attorneys across both litigation and transactional matters. Prior experience in both areas is preferred, but we will also consider candidates who have experience in one area and a strong interest in learning the other.
Our firm provides high quality legal services to clients in Nebraska, Iowa, and surrounding areas. We are a growing law firm with a practical, client focused approach. This role is important to the day-to-day operation of the firm and requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Legal Assistant will be expected to assist with a variety of legal, administrative, and office support tasks, including:
- Preparing, formatting, proofreading, and revising legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, contracts, corporate documents, real estate documents, and related materials.
- Assisting attorneys with both litigation and transactional matters.
- Electronically filing documents with state and federal courts.
- Filing documents with Secretary of State offices, county offices, registers of deeds, and other governmental offices.
- Maintaining and organizing electronic and physical client files.
- Saving, naming, and organizing documents in the firm’s document management system.
- Managing attorney calendars, deadlines, appointments, and conference room scheduling.
- Monitoring attorney email inboxes as directed.
- Assisting with attorney task lists and follow up items.
- Preparing, assembling, and sending documents to clients, opposing counsel, courts, agencies, vendors, and other third parties.
- Communicating with clients, courts, government offices, vendors, and other third parties in a professional manner.
- Answering and directing phone calls.
- Assisting with billing, expense reimbursement, payment processing, and recording payments.
- Coordinating mailings, deliveries, scanning, copying, and similar administrative tasks.
- Assisting with meeting preparation, including scheduling, materials, meals, set up, and clean up when needed.
- Maintaining confidentiality of client and firm information at all times.
- Providing backup support to other attorneys, legal assistants, and staff as needed.
- Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Four or more years of experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, administrative assistant, office manager, or similar role, preferably in a law firm.
- Experience or interest in supporting both litigation and transactional legal work.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Comfort learning and using legal technology, document management systems, court filing systems, and other software platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent grammar, spelling, proofreading, and document formatting skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize competing tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
- Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.
- Ability to take direction, follow through, and ask thoughtful questions when clarification is needed.
- Comfort working in a growing law firm where responsibilities may evolve over time.
- High school diploma required. College, paralegal, or other legal training is preferred but not required.
Work Arrangement
This role requires some ability to be present in the Omaha office when necessary, but we are open to hybrid arrangements, depending on firm needs, attorney schedules, and the candidate’s demonstrated ability to work independently.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is expected to range from $52,000-$62,000 for legal assistant and $62,000-$80,000 annually for a paralegal (based upon full-time equivalent) depending on experience, skill level, and day one capabilities. We will also consider the right part-time candidate. Compensation is negotiable for highly qualified candidates.
